About the Compress image

Handytool's image compressor shrinks JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, and HEIC files so they load faster and take less storage — without a visible drop in quality. A single quality slider controls the trade-off, and an optional max-dimension cap downscales oversized photos in the same step. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Compress image features

  • 01

    Quality slider, instant feedback

Pick a quality level from 1 to 100. The result panel shows the new file size and the percentage saved next to each image, so you can dial in the right balance.

  • 02

    Optional resize-down

Cap the longer side at any pixel size to shrink huge phone photos at the same time. Aspect ratio is always preserved.

Compress image FAQ

How much can I compress an image without losing quality?
JPG and WebP at quality 75–85 typically shrink files by 50–80% with no visible difference from the original. AVIF gets even smaller at the same quality. The right setting depends on the image — use the quality slider and check the preview.
Does the compressor change my image dimensions?
Not by default. Enable the max-dimension option if you also want to downscale oversized images while compressing them.
What is the difference between JPG, WebP, and AVIF compression?
JPG is the most compatible. WebP gives roughly 25–35% smaller files at the same visual quality. AVIF is the newest standard with the best compression, but encoding speed is slower.
Can I compress PNG files?
PNG is lossless and can't be re-compressed in the same way. The tool will compress PNG sources by re-encoding them as WebP (or your chosen format) — typically 60–80% smaller — while keeping transparency.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device.
