Handytool's YouTube thumbnail downloader grabs the cover image of any YouTube video in every resolution YouTube publishes — maxres (1280×720), SD (640×480), HQ (480×360), MQ (320×180) and default (120×90). Paste a full URL, a youtu.be short link, a Shorts URL or a bare video ID, then download the thumbnail you want as a JPG. Nothing is uploaded: the tool parses the URL in your browser and fetches the image straight from YouTube's CDN.

How do I download a YouTube thumbnail in HD?
Paste the video URL into the tool and click Download under the maxres option. Maxres is 1280×720 when the uploader supplied a high-resolution thumbnail; otherwise YouTube falls back to 480×360.
Why is maxresdefault.jpg missing for some videos?
YouTube only generates the 1280×720 thumbnail for videos that were uploaded with a high-resolution frame or custom cover. Older or low-resolution videos may only have hqdefault (480×360) and below.
Does this work with YouTube Shorts?
Yes. Paste any Shorts URL (youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID) and the tool extracts the video ID and shows the standard thumbnail sizes YouTube generates for Shorts.
Is downloading YouTube thumbnails legal?
Thumbnails are hosted on YouTube's public CDN and can be viewed without signing in. However, the image is still owned by the creator. Use thumbnails for personal reference, fair-use commentary, or with permission from the uploader.
Are the files I download private?
Yes. The URL you paste is parsed in your browser and thumbnails are fetched directly from i.ytimg.com. Handytool never sees which video you looked up.
