How do I add numbers to each line of text?

Paste your text and the lines are numbered automatically starting at 1. Adjust the start, step, and separator to taste, then copy or download the result.

Can I start numbering from a value other than 1?

Yes. Set the "Start" field to any number (including negatives) and the "Step" field to count up by 1, 5, 10, or any interval you like.

What separators are available?

A period ("1. "), parenthesis ("1) "), colon ("1: "), a tab, or a single space — pick whichever suits your list or code.

Does it skip blank lines?

Only if you enable "Skip empty lines." With it on, blank lines stay blank and don't consume a number; with it off, every line is numbered.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Line numbering runs in your browser and your text never leaves the page.
