About the PDF to EPUB
Drop in a PDF and Handytool turns it into a properly structured EPUB you can read on Apple Books, Kobo, PocketBook, Calibre or send to Kindle. The text is extracted from the PDF directly inside your browser, then a language model splits it into chapters, drops page numbers and running headers, and rejoins paragraphs that were broken across lines. The result is a reflowable ebook with a real table of contents — not a frozen page-by-page snapshot like most online PDF-to-EPUB converters produce.
PDF to EPUB features
- 01
AI-detected chapters and clean text
A language model reads the extracted text, identifies chapter and section boundaries, and removes page numbers, repeated headers, footers and broken hyphenated line breaks. The output is a real ebook structure, not just a single long flow.
- 02
Reflowable EPUB for any reader
Output is standard EPUB 2 with an NCX table of contents — supported by Apple Books, Kobo, PocketBook, Calibre and Send to Kindle. Font size, margins and dark mode are honoured by your e-reader, unlike PDF.
- 03
Your PDF never leaves your device
PDF text extraction happens locally in your browser via WebAssembly. Only the extracted plain text is sent to our service to be structured — the original PDF, images and binary content are not uploaded.
PDF to EPUB FAQ
- How do I convert a PDF to EPUB?
- Drop your PDF into the upload area and click Convert. The tool extracts the text in your browser, sends it to our AI to be split into chapters, and packs the result into an EPUB you can download in one click.
- Will the EPUB reflow on my e-reader?
- Yes. Unlike a PDF, which has fixed pages, the output is a reflowable EPUB. Your e-reader chooses font, size and margins, so the book reads comfortably on phone, Kindle, Kobo or tablet.
- Does it work on scanned PDFs?
- No. The converter reads the text layer of the PDF. Scanned books are images of text and need OCR first — try an OCR tool to produce a text-based PDF, then convert that PDF here.
- Is my PDF uploaded to your server?
- The PDF itself is not uploaded. Text is extracted in your browser, and only the extracted text is sent to the AI service that detects chapters. Images, fonts and any other binary content stay on your device.
- Does it work on Kindle?
- Modern Kindles accept EPUB via Send to Kindle. Email the EPUB Handytool produces to your @kindle.com address, or use the Send to Kindle web form, and Amazon will deliver it to your library.
- How long can the PDF be?
- The free converter handles roughly the first 200,000 characters of extracted text, which is around 300–500 average book pages. For very long books, split the PDF first and convert each part separately.
